Samsung announces High-speed Wi-Fi Technology

Samsung recently announced that it has developed 60GHz Wi-Fi technology that provide speeds up to 4.6Gbps. High-speed Wi-Fi, known as WiGig is a wireless networking standard, named 802.11ad. WiGig is not a standard that will be added into wireless routers as the 8002.11ac has not even been fully adopted.

802.11ad is a wireless networking standard that uses the 60GHz frequency and is for high-speed communications between devices within a wireless network. For example, consumers can have an "island" of WiGig that operates at the 60 GHz band and can be dedicated for high-quality video and audio streaming or transmitting high performance wireless data.

The press release from Samsung , states "Unlike the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies, Samsung’s 802.11ad standard 60GHz Wi-Fi technology maintains maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network. By doing so, Samsung’s new technology removes the gap between theoretical and actual speeds, and exhibits actual speed that is more than 10 times faster than that of 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies."

Samsung is not into production of wireless routers for consumers. Samsung makes smart TVs, tablets, and monitors, and mostly other end-user devices. The new technology will help all these devices to be able to network from one Samsung device to another. Samsung customized 802.11ad technology for its products.
