Microsoft to offer free Windows 10 upgrades

If you are on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone 8.1, you will be eligible for a free upgrade inside the first year of Windows 10. Microsoft made the announcement at an event on its corporate campus. The company promised a new build of Windows 10 next week, and also confirmed that the first build of the operating system for smartphones will be released in February.

Microsoft unveiled a new browser in their January 21 event. The new browser, is codenamed “Project Spartan,” and it will include reading lists, a distraction-free reading mode(like the one in Safari on Macs and iOS devices) and a built-in PDF viewer.

Whatsapp comes to the web


If you are a frequent Whatsapp user, it will be fun to know there’s now a desktop version of the app. It’s a web app rather than a native client — and for now, at least, it seems to only play friendly with Google Chrome.

Google's domain registration service is now available to the public in the U.S. starting at $12 per year, which includes features like Whois privacy, domain and email forwarding (forwarding of email aliases @<your domain>).

Google to buy mobile payment company, Softcard, for $100 million


There has been reports that Google is planning to buy mobile payments company Softcard — a move that could facilitate Google's competition with Apple Pay payments service. Softcard is a joint venture between Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile that was formerly known as ISIS.

Google’s Classroom education initiative launched just about half a year ago, but it’s been web-based until now. Today, Classroom apps for iOS and Android was launched. This however, should help build on the existing 30 million assignments that have been submitted via the platform since its debut.
