Man caught at Chinese border with 94 iphones strapped to his body
A Hong Kong man attempted to cross the Chinese border with 94 iPhones strapped all over his body — and the customs check went just as you might expect, with him being caught. The phones were strapped to his torso, legs and groin, according to a Chinese news report. The pictures show that he was stocked with iPhone 6 and 5S models.
Customs officials at the Futain Port noticed his bizarre posture and weird walk while carrying only two bags, had to stop him for search and after finding nothing suspicious in the bags, asked him to pass through the metal detector- and the alarm went off.
The phones are available for purchase at Apple Stores in China; the devices launched in the country in mid-October. Of course, iPhone smugglers are known to exist in China. Initially, the going rate for an iPhone 6 there was thousands of dollars.
While the man could have presumably made a hefty profit, it's unclear where the iPhones were purchased from. Customs officials estimated to CNN that the total value of the phones surpassed $49,000.
